Vans was launched in 1966 by brothers Paul and James Van Doren in Anaheim, California. The brand quickly became the preferred sneakers for skateboarders all around the world. They had a unique approach by selling directly to the customer which was an uncommon thing in the 1970s opposed to today’s Internet age. Along with skateboarding events, Vans sponsors many surfing, snowboarding, and BMX competitions along with the Warped Tour Music Festival. Their slip on checkered shoes have become iconic, and Sean Penn famously wore them in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Vans has put out a solid line of limited edition kicks in recent years that collectors have thoroughly enjoyed.
