ASICS started in 1949 when founder Kihachiro Onitsuka’s started making kicks in his living room in Japan. They eventually hit the United States in 1977 and athletes took notice. In 1986, ASICS introduced its revolutionary Gel technology designed to enhance cushioning and provide soft landings similar to Nike’s Air line of sneakers. Today shoes, such as the GT-II and Gel-Lyte 3, are experiencing a remix as ASICS collaborates with designers to create specialty kicks for sneakerheads.
